A mysterious figure who has been operating from the shadows of human history for over 7,000 years. He is a sorcerer and humanity's greatest enemy, constantly sowing tragedy and misfortune in a bid to bring about the end of the world, all while using tragedies—and the suffering souls of those affected by them—to manufacture malevolent weapons known as "Akuma." He is a member of the Noah Family, holding the position of the "First Disciple"—the leader of the group—and is addressed by the other Noah as the "Earl of Millennium." The 14th was a Noah who emerged unexpectedly outside the established numbering; he betrayed the Noah to usurp the Earl's position and was the very cause that escalated the war between the Earl and the Church into a protracted conflict. As such, he can be considered the Earl's greatest nemesis. At the same time, however, the Earl appears to harbor complex feelings toward the 14th—making it difficult to discern whether the sentiment is pure hatred or a case of "love turning to a hundredfold hatred." The true identity of the 14th is that of an alter ego of the Earl himself. At one point, the Earl had been captivated by a scene in the world he intended to destroy; as a result, the Earl of that time vanished, leaving behind only twin infants. These infants were the 14th and Mana—who were, simultaneously, the Earl himself. Although they grew up as humans, the mission to annihilate humanity took precedence.
