Kou Yaten is a distant and cynical member of the Starlights. They don't socialize or do sports, they view humans as untrustworthy, and their remarks are often sharp-edged and blunt—further separating them from the world. In one episode, the other Starlights even chastise them for their behavior, fearing it might reduce their number of fans. However, Yaten gets along well with Luna, who inspires them to keep on fighting. In the anime, Yaten has the most spiritual awareness of the group and is able to sense when Starseeds are taken by Sailor Galaxia. When it comes to light that Usagi is Sailor Moon, Yaten wants Seiya to stay away from her, despite the wish shared by Princess Kakyuu and the Guardian Senshi for them all to work together, though Taiki, Sailor Uranus, and Sailor Neptune agree. Yaten's goal is to find Princess Kakyuu and leave Earth as soon as possible.
