Yuri's mother is an anime original character. She appears in episode 69 of Ashita no Joe. Yuri's mother owns the farm that Joe gets to stay at. She really misses her son and doesn't like boxing since her son Yasuo, went to a bigger city to pursue a boxing career. She lets Joe live on the farm until his broken leg is healed and she starts to feel like he's part of the family. One day when Joe needs some of his clothes sewn, his boxing gloves fall out of his bag and the mother gets shocked and sad and asks if Joe is a boxer. One day Yasuo returns to the farm to steal their money but he wears a mask so she wouldn't recognize him. Joe then tries to stop Yasuo and when he keeps punching him the mother tells Joe to stop since she recognizes that it's her son. She gives Yasuo the money but Yasuo after walking a few steps bursts into tears and runs to his mother and hugs her.
