Height: 148 cm (4'9") She serves as the Navigation Officer aboard the Harekaze, an ocean-going training ship of the Yokosuka Girls' Marine High School. Although she often handles the helm on the bridge, she has a terrible sense of direction. She is an incredibly anxious and timid person who always seems somewhat jittery and prone to bursting into tears. Ironically, however, she becomes strangely energetic whenever she decides to make a run for it—sometimes even misusing her talent for running fast to facilitate her escape. Perhaps due to her constant worrying, she suffers from frequent stomach aches and always carries stomach medicine with her. Having spent her life running away from things out of fear since childhood, she decided to become a Blue Mermaid in an effort to change herself. Encouraged by Akeno whenever she falls into a slump, she is striving to pick herself up and move forward. Mayumi Uchida, a fellow member of the Navigation Department, is her childhood friend; she, too, has often been dragged into Suzu's habit of running away. Her family runs a shrine located on the water off the coast of Hinomisaki in Shimane Prefecture, and she serves as a shrine maiden there. Since the shrine is known for granting blessings related to matchmaking and good fortune, she visited Yokosuka's Suwa Shrine—famous for granting success in exams—during the New Year holidays to pray for her admission to the marine school. However, her flawless execution of the ritual purification (emizu) led a shrine official to mistake her for a fellow professional, and she ended up helping out with the work. It remains unclear whether the two of them ever realized this connection after meeting aboard the Harekaze.
